Short answer: a sales page copywriter typically costs $1,500 to $15,000 or more per page, with $3,000 to $5,000 the most commonly quoted range for a long-form page from an experienced freelancer. Hourly rates run from about $50 for a newer writer to $150 to $300 or more for a specialist. The price tracks the writer’s track record and how much customer research the quote includes, not the word count.
Ranges come from NewMedia’s copywriting rates guide (updated August 2026), Column Content’s freelance copywriting rates article (June 2024) and Copyhackers’ article on pricing sales page copy (updated September 2020), read October 24, 2026. None of these is a neutral survey; each comes from a company that sells copywriting or trains copywriters, so treat every figure as an asking price. Converto prices are from our own pricing page.

Sales page copywriter cost at a glance
Copywriting has no rate card and no body that audits prices, so each range below is listed with where it came from and how old it is.
| What you are buying | Published price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sales page, per page | $1,500 to $15,000+ | NewMedia, updated August 2026 |
| Landing page, per page | $750 to $7,500+ | NewMedia, updated August 2026 |
| Sales page, per page | $300 to $25,000 | Column Content, June 2024 |
| Long-form sales page from an experienced freelancer | $3,000 to $5,000 is the usual quote; the author had never been quoted above $5,000 | Copyhackers, updated September 2020 |
| Hourly, professional freelancer for a small or mid-sized business | $50 to $150 an hour | NewMedia |
| Hourly, experienced specialist | $150 to $300+ an hour; seasoned specialists $200 to $500 | NewMedia |
| Monthly retainer | Often $2,000 to $5,000 | NewMedia |
The spread is the point. The same page can be quoted at $500 by a generalist and $15,000 by someone with a record of launches in your market. Both quotes can be fair; they are not for the same work.
How much does it cost to have a sales page written?
For most US small businesses, course creators and SaaS teams, having a sales page written costs about $1,500 to $5,000 from a competent freelancer, and more from a well-known name. Below $1,000 you are usually paying for writing without research. Above $10,000 you are paying for a proven launch record, deep research and often strategy for the whole offer.
Copyhackers gives the clearest look at the top of the market. The article’s author wrote that copywriters typically quote $3,000 to $5,000 for a sales page and that no freelancer had ever quoted them more than $5,000 for a long-form page. The same article puts one long-form page written in house at four days of work at a $5,000 day rate, which works out to $20,000 of time. That spread, from $3,000 to $20,000 for the same kind of page, is mostly research and revision, not typing.
Why sales page copy is priced per project, not per word
A sales page that works is mostly built before anyone writes a sentence. The expensive part is learning who buys, what they are afraid of, which words they use for their problem, and which proof convinces them. That is why experienced writers quote per page or per project. A per-word price punishes the short, sharp page and rewards padding, which is the opposite of what you want.
When comparing quotes, ask what research is included. Interviews with buyers, a survey of your list, reading support tickets and reviews, and studying competitor pages all take days. A quote that includes them will be higher, and it is usually the one that earns the money back. If you plan to run that research yourself to cut the fee, asking your buyers to answer by voice or video gets you their exact words faster than a typed form, and those words are what a good writer builds the page around.
What pushes a sales page copywriting quote up
- Price of the product. NewMedia notes that sales page rates vary with product price, offer structure and proof. A page selling a $2,000 program carries more risk per word than a page selling a $49 template, and writers price that in.
- Research depth. Customer interviews and surveys add days. Skipping them lowers the quote and usually lowers the conversion rate too.
- Offer work. If the writer is also shaping the offer, the bonuses and the guarantee, you are buying strategy as well as copy.
- Rounds of revision. Two rounds are common; unlimited revisions often mean a junior writer or a padded price.
- Extras. Launch emails, ad copy, checkout and thank you page copy are frequently quoted separately.
- Royalties or bonuses. Some direct response writers ask for a share of sales on top of the fee. Read the contract before you agree.
Is a $5,000 sales page worth it?
A $5,000 sales page is worth it when the page will see enough traffic and sell a product expensive enough that a small lift in conversion pays it back within a launch or two. A page that gets 3,000 visitors a month selling a $500 course at 2 percent makes $30,000 a month; lifting it to 2.5 percent adds $7,500 a month, so the fee is covered in the first month. The same fee on a page with 300 visitors and a $49 product takes years to repay.
Do that arithmetic with your own numbers before you hire. If the page has little traffic, the problem is traffic, and no copywriter fixes it.
Before you hire, check whether the copy is the problem
Most underperforming sales pages have problems that are not the words. The enroll or buy button sits below the first screen on a phone. The page offers six ways to leave before the price. The hero video takes four seconds to load. The checkout asks for a phone number nobody needs. A new writer will hand you excellent copy that loads into the same broken structure.
That is what an audit is for. Converto reads your live sales page the way a first-time visitor does and scores copy, call to action, layout, speed and AI-readability. It flags a headline over 14 words, a first call to action past 35 percent of the page, more than 6 competing calls to action, a form with more than 5 fields and a slow first load, then ranks the fixes and writes replacement headline and button variants. Plans start from $29 a month billed yearly, which is less than an hour of a mid-range copywriter’s time.
| Route | Typical cost | What you get | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audit first | From $29 a month billed yearly | A scored list of what is wrong on the live page, ranked, with replacement headline and button copy | You have a page and traffic and do not know why it is not selling |
| Freelance sales page copywriter | About $1,500 to $5,000 per page | New long-form copy built on research | The message is wrong, or you are launching a new offer |
| High-end direct response writer | $5,000 to $15,000+ per page, sometimes plus royalties | Research, offer strategy and copy from someone with a launch record | High traffic, a high-ticket product, and a lot riding on one launch |
The routes combine. Run the audit, fix the structural problems yourself, measure for a couple of weeks, and if the page still underperforms, hand a writer the audit as part of the brief. You pay for words aimed at the real problem instead of a rewrite of a page whose button nobody could find. The longer comparison of the two is in conversion copywriter vs copy audit tool.
How to choose a sales page copywriter
- Ask for results, not samples. A beautiful sample says nothing about whether it sold. Ask what a page did before and after, and for a reference you can contact.
- Look for your market. A writer who has sold courses to coaches will start faster on your course than one who writes for B2B software, and the reverse.
- Ask how they research. If the answer is “send me your notes”, the quote should be at the low end.
- Agree on what done means. Number of revision rounds, who builds the page in your platform, and whether email and checkout copy are included.
- Check ownership. You should own the copy outright once the invoice is paid.
Where the page lives changes who you hire
If your sales page sits on a course platform, much of what slows it down is a platform setting rather than the copy. The platform guides show where each fix is made: Teachable sales page optimization, Kajabi sales page optimization and Thinkific sales page optimization. If you are weighing a full redesign rather than new copy, landing page design cost covers what designers charge per page.
The cheapest order is the same everywhere: audit the page you have, fix what the audit finds, measure, and only then pay a writer for the part that is still wrong.
