Heap Analytics Alternative: Get the Page Fix Without Session-Based Pricing
Heap autocaptures everything visitors do once its snippet is live. Converto skips the snippet entirely: paste a URL, get the page audit and the variants, self-serve from $19/mo.
Why this tends to convert:
Data-informed, not guarantees
Where each one fits
Heap made its name on autocapture: install the snippet and it records every click, form interaction, and pageview retroactively, so you can define events after the fact instead of predicting them in advance. That is a genuinely useful model, and for teams that never manage to keep an event schema current it removes a real failure mode. Heap has been part of Contentsquare since the December 2023 acquisition, which put it alongside Hotjar in the same portfolio. Its free tier covers up to 10,000 monthly sessions with six months of history and, unusually for a free plan, includes SSO. No paid tier publishes a price: Growth asks you to sign up and install the tracking snippet to get an estimate, and Pro and Premier are listed as custom session pricing through sales. Third-party procurement trackers commonly report Growth starting near $3,600 a year, which is reporting rather than a published figure, so treat it that way and get a quote. The structural tradeoffs are the ones every autocapture tool has. You need the snippet before anything happens, session-based billing means a traffic spike is a cost event, and once the data is in you still have to work out what a drop-off means and write the fix yourself. Converto sits at that last step and is not an analytics tool. It reads the live page at its public URL with nothing installed, scores copy, layout, CTAs, page speed, and AI-readability, and generates the ready-to-ship variants. Flat $19/mo, no session metering, no sales call. Heap is the better product for understanding behavior at scale across a product; Converto is the faster path from a weak page to a better one. Short answer: Heap is a product analytics platform that autocaptures every click and form interaction once its snippet is live, and Converto is a page audit tool that reads a live URL with nothing installed and writes the fix. They solve adjacent problems, not the same one. If you want a full field of nine priced competitors instead of this head-to-head, that is on best Heap alternatives. Last updated August 2026.
The three things about Heap most comparisons leave out
These come off Heap's own pricing page and FAQ in August 2026, and each one changes whether Heap belongs on your shortlist.
| What people assume | What Heap actually publishes |
|---|---|
| You can look up what the paid plans cost | No paid tier shows a price. Growth says to sign up and install the free snippet to get an estimate |
| Product analytics includes session recordings | Session replay, heatmaps and error analysis are a paid add-on for Pro and Premier only. Free and Growth have none |
| Going over the limit costs you an overage fee | There is no published overage rate. Heap keeps collecting but you cannot view your data again until you upgrade |
| Paying more gets you more history | Growth is 12 months and Pro is 1 year, which is the same. Additional years are a separate add-on out to 3 years |
| Heap competes with Contentsquare | Contentsquare has owned Heap since December 2023, and publishes 16 priced tiers of its own while Heap publishes none |

Where Heap genuinely beats us
Autocapture is real and it is Heap's best argument. Once the snippet is live, Heap records every click, form interaction and pageview, so you can define an event three months after the fact and still have the history behind it. That removes a specific and common failure: discovering that nobody instrumented the thing you now need to measure. Converto does nothing like it. If measuring behavior across a whole product over time is the job, buy an analytics tool, and Heap is a good one.
Heap also puts SSO on its free tier, which almost nobody in this category does. Amplitude gates single sign-on to a sales-quoted plan and Mixpanel gates it to Enterprise. For a security-conscious team that needs SSO before it can sign anything, Heap Free is the cheapest route in.
Where Converto is the better purchase
Analytics tells you that 41 percent of visitors abandon your pricing step. It does not tell you that the headline is vague, the CTA is below the fold on a 13-inch laptop, the form asks for a phone number nobody wants to give, and the page takes 4.1 seconds to paint on mobile. That reading is still a person's job, and it is the job most teams are actually stuck on.
Paste a live URL into Converto and you get that reading in minutes: a score across copy, layout, CTA placement, page speed and AI-readability, the leaks ranked by likely impact, and ready-to-ship headline and CTA variants you can publish or push into a split test. Nothing to install, no session meter, no waiting for data to accumulate before it says anything, and because it reads the public page it works on URLs you do not own, so you can audit a competitor. Flat $19 a month, self-serve. Suggestions are data-informed rather than guaranteed.
Under about 10,000 monthly visits the case for Converto over analytics is strongest, because that is also where Heap's free tier stops and where a two-way A/B test would take more than a year to reach significance. There is not enough volume for measurement to change a decision, but there is always enough for the page to be better written.
Running both
The two are not mutually exclusive and plenty of teams should run both. Heap free gives you 10,000 sessions of autocaptured behavior for nothing, which is enough to see which step leaks. Converto turns the leaking step into a rewritten page. If you want the wider category map, best Heap alternatives prices nine competitors side by side, product analytics versus session replay covers why buying one does not get you the other, and best CRO tools covers the whole field.
Questions
Heap alternative questions
For autocapture and product analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, PostHog, and Pendo are the closest substitutes, and PostHog is the strongest open-source option. Microsoft Clarity is free for heatmaps and replay but does no product analytics. For the page-level fix rather than the measurement, Converto audits a live URL and writes the variants with nothing installed.
Heap offers a free tier covering roughly 10,000 monthly sessions with about six months of data history. Growth, Pro, and Premier are quoted by sales on annual contracts priced by session volume, and third-party trackers commonly report Growth starting near $3,600 per year. Heap does not publish complete list pricing, so request a quote for real numbers.
Yes. Contentsquare acquired Heap in December 2023, adding product analytics to a portfolio that already included Hotjar, which it bought in 2021. Heap continues to be sold as its own product. If you are evaluating the wider Contentsquare suite, our Contentsquare comparison covers the enterprise digital experience analytics side of that portfolio.
Autocapture records every click, form field, and pageview automatically so you can define events retroactively rather than instrumenting them in advance. It helps most when your team cannot keep an event schema current. The cost is data volume, a taxonomy cleanup later, and a snippet on every page. Small sites often get more from fixing the page than from measuring it more finely.
PostHog offers a generous free cloud tier and an open-source self-hosted edition, and Microsoft Clarity is free without limits for heatmaps and session replay though it does no product analytics. Both still need a snippet. Converto is not free, from $19/mo, but it needs nothing installed and produces the rewritten page rather than a report.
Heap suits teams that want data captured automatically without planning events up front, and bills by session on annual contracts. Mixpanel suits teams willing to define an event schema in exchange for cheaper, event-metered pricing and a real free tier. Choose Heap for coverage without planning, Mixpanel for control and lower entry cost.
